Ongoing Case Consultation in Couples and Family Work for Experienced Practitioners
24 Sessions, 1:00pm - 2:45pm
This small group consultation will focus on the participants’ clinical work with couples and families. Each member will be able to present his/her own work for feedback from the consultant and group members. Consultation will include didactic content; participants will be given suggested readings on topics such as stepfamilies, remarried couples, divorcing families, single parent families, adolescents in family treatment, families with loss through suicide and other topics which are germane to the case discussions.
Fall Courses, October 10 - November 2007
Sexuality I: Helping Adults with Sexual Concerns
5 Sessions, 9:00am - 10:45am
This course, run as a participatory seminar, will introduce the practitioners to helping adult clients, both single and coupled, who have sexual concerns. Focus will be on the understanding and assessment of sexual concerns as having physical, psychological, and/or dyadic origins with emphasis on appropriate level of intervention and participants’ comfort with eliciting sexual information. Participants will be encouraged to bring in practice examples.
Couples I: The Difficult Couple
5 Sessions, 11:00am - 12:45am
This seminar-style course will focus on couples (same-sex & heterosexual) who have severe problems related to outside stressors (divorce, remarriage, step parenting, unemployment, death in the family), personality styles, and/or trauma histories. Didactic material will include conceptualization, assessment and introduction to intervention. Participants will be encouraged to bring in practice examples.
Winter Courses, January 16, 2008 - February 20, 2008
Sexuality II: Introduction to Effective Interventions for Adults with Sexual Concerns
5 Sessions, 9:00am - 10:45am
This seminar will build on the material covered in Sexuality 1. The emphasis will be on intervening and helping adults with sexual concerns, and on continuing to develop the practitioners’ comfort in discussing sexuality with clients.
Couples II: Effective Interventions with Couples with Relationship Concerns
5 Sessions, 11:00am - 12:45am
This seminar will build on the material covered in Couples I. It will focus on effective dyadic interventions including communication training, fair fighting and couple contracting. Some couple experience is required; attendees will be encouraged to bring in case examples.
Spring Courses, April 23, 2008 - May 21, 2008
Sexuality III: Case Studies in Helping Adults with Sexual Concerns
9:00am - 10:45am
This seminar will focus on assessing and intervening with adults who are on the caseloads of participants. Issues relating to family of origin of participants will be included, as well as continued comfort with intervening with sexual concerns.
Couples III: Case Studies in Helping Troubled Couples
5 Sessions, 11:00am - 12:45am
This seminar will build on the material covered in Couples I. It will focus on effective dyadic interventions including communication training, fair fighting and couple contracting. Some couple experience is required; attendees will be encouraged to bring in case examples.
