The JBFCS Rita J. Kaplan Jewish Connections Programs (JCP) help Jewish New Yorkers and the institutions that serve them create and sustain caring communities that promote resiliency in the face of major life challenges such as illness, loss, addiction, divorce, single parenthood and the burdens of caregiving.

JCP fulfills this mission by:
• Providing a continuum of professional, volunteer, and mutual support services
• Integrating social work practice with the richness and resources found in Jewish tradition and spirituality
• Providing consultation and training to mental health professionals, clergy, educators, and volunteers

End-of-Life Care: Continuing Education & Support for Professionals

This non-sectarian program responds to the needs of health care professionals to provide continuing education and support for social workers, nurses, physicians, case managers, community based case workers and anyone else working with the seriously ill. Life-limiting illness and the dying process can raise many issues for the client as well as the practitioner. This workshop will: further understanding of this stage of life including psychosocial, cultural, and spiritual factors; help participants identify and define their personal responses to death and dying in order to increase their professional effectiveness; and offer practical skills to address unique challenges that are presented during this very special time of life.

Dates: TBD, Fall and Spring

21st Annual Conference on Visiting the Sick

Programs for Visiting the Sick can be organized in large and small communities. On the second Sunday of November each year, we host an annual conference in New York City to provide training and inspiration to perform this mitzvah. Participants gain skills and confidence through a variety of workshops, in order to visit the sick on their own, as part of a group, or to develop their own program in their community. Workshop topics include: basic visiting skills; developing an effective visitors program; documenting ethical wills, skills for telephone visiting; organizing youth visiting programs; caregiver stress reduction, and selfcare and advice for program coordinators.

Dates: November 9, Sunday, 8:30am - 3:30pm
