Accurate Clinical Record Writing: Do It Once, Do It Well

Private and agency-based practitioners seeking to improve their
record writing skills. Record writing is essential for documenting
and supporting diagnoses; meeting time frames; managing risk;
meeting funding and audit mandates; and reflecting quality,
coordinated care and client success.

Participants will learn:
• To write shorter, more focused session notes that work for the practitioner, the client, the agency, the insurer and the funder
• To apply HIPAA and other confidentiality rules, including those related to foster care
• To balance professional ethics and regulations
• How the HIPAA, NY State Mental Hygiene Law and the Social Work Code of Ethics can work in concert
• Practical guidelines for writing professional notes that reflect the success of treatment
• Clarification of legal principles such as "need to know" and "minimum necessary"
• The new National Provider Identifier (NPI) is reviewed
